What Is Chronic Rhinosinusitis with Nasal Polyps?
This is a disease process where there is chronic inflammation of the nasal and sinus cavities that leads to symptoms of nasal congestion, nasal drainage, decreased smell and facial pain or pressure with the discovery of nasal polyps found either on imaging (CT scan) or with nasal endoscopy, a specialized scope ENTs use to visualize the nasal cavity.
A majority of individuals with chronic rhinosinusitis and nasal polyps have it due to inflammation, specifically type two inflammation. This may be associated with other conditions such as environmental allergies and/or asthma.
What Is DUPIXENT?
It is an injectable biologic that has been FDA-approved for use in individuals 12 years old and above who have chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps, particularly those whose disease is not well controlled with long-term maintenance treatments such as steroid nasal sprays, saline nasal rinses, or even surgery.
How Does DUPIXENT Work to Treat Chronic Rhinosinusitis with Nasal Polyps?
DUPIXENT targets and blocks the main drivers of type 2 inflammation, IL-4 & IL-13. By blocking IL-4 & IL-13, this, over time, reduces the size of nasal polyps, leading to improvement in nasal congestion and loss of smell. DUPIXENT is used in conjunction with maintenance therapies such as steroid nasal sprays and nasal rinses.
